What did the 2021 tornado actually do in Hilltown?
It ended its path here. The tornado began south of Souderton, hit the Hidden Springs mobile home community, where trees fell on homes, and then crossed into Hilltown. On Dublin Pike near Blue School Road, a section of roofing came off an auto repair shop. Peak gusts of more than 100 mph were recorded.
That is a specific, reported event. It does not mean any given roof here was damaged, and it does not predict the next storm. If you saw wind that night and have not looked at your roof since, a ground check for lifted edges and missing ridge caps is worth an afternoon. See wind damage roof repair.
Why are trees a bigger part of the picture on rural lots?
Rural lots carry more trees close to the house, and a limb on a roof can crack shingles, bend flashing and puncture the deck. A roofer who handles tree damage may start with a temporary cover and then plan the repair. That is a general pattern, and we make no promise about timing; the roofer arrives when one is free.
If a tree is lying on the roof, stay off the roof. Describe what you can see from the ground when you call, and say whether water is coming inside. Our page on storm damage roof repair covers the next steps and what to photograph.
Which office handles a roof permit in Hilltown?
As a Bucks County township, Hilltown has its own township office, and Pennsylvania's Uniform Construction Code covers the work. We do not have a sourced list of what it asks for, so call the township and ask. Do not rely on rules from Souderton Borough, which is in Montgomery County.
Ask the roofer who files the permit for a replacement and whether storm repair needs one. Get that answer in writing, and keep it with your quote.
What should you photograph before you call after a storm?
Take pictures from the ground: the roof from several sides, any shingles or ridge caps in the yard, a fallen limb on or near the roof, and gutters pulled loose. If water has entered, photograph the ceiling and any wet insulation, taken from a safe spot. Date the photos by saving them as they are.
Do not climb up to take better ones. Roofing after a storm can be slippery and unstable, and a ground photo is enough for a roofer to start. Keep the photos for your insurer too; what the insurer decides is between you and them, and nothing here says what will be covered.
What does a rural driveway mean for a roofing job?
Many rural lots have long driveways, overhead lines and trees close to the house. A roofer needs room for materials, a ladder and, on a replacement, a place for debris. When you call, mention anything that limits access: a narrow lane, a steep slope, a gate, or a tree over the roof.
Those details help the roofer plan, and they may affect how the job is priced. We do not quote prices, and nothing on this page is a price. For an overview of what drives a replacement price, see roof replacement.
